I've been struggling with this for weeks.
There's something that's been bothering me about the Trouble with the Curve trailer.
Yes, Justin Timberlake just doesn't work for me as an actor, but there's something else that's been troubling me, and it has to do with the line: "I'm just a brokendown old man," which comes around the 1:30 mark of this trailer.
I know I've heard this before, from another older actor talking to a young ingenue/daughter character that isn't Amy Adams.
At first, I thought it was Million Dollar Baby, given the actor, but then I realized I had the right genre---wrong movie.
It's The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke, who says, "I'm an old brokendown piece of meat," to Evan Rachel Wood's character at the 1:10 mark of the trailer.
I see what you're doing there, screenwriter Randy Brown. Using a classic line from an Oscar-nominated movie and tweaking it ever so slightly so you can make this film Oscar worthy, too.
So can we expect other similarities?
Will. . .
- Justin Timberlake be a stripper with a heart of gold?
- Bruce Springsteen write a kick-ass song about going blind?
- Clint Eastwood have a distinct "Ram Jam" move?
Or maybe Amy Adams will just take a fall on a corner stool.
