Confession: I'm jumping in to "Boardwalk Empire," having only seen bits and pieces of seasons one and two, and having heard everyone bitch about Jimmy's demise last season like a Martha & the Vandellas song.
I picked a good time to jump in to the show, since BE seems to be doing a respawn, especially with the introduction of Bobby Cannavale who plays Gyp Rosetti, a volatile Italian import who may make Nucky's life a little rough this season.
This is quite the jump for Cannavale, since he tends to play big softies and sweethearts. I've always liked to think of him as a hunky Brad Garrett.
He's a talented character actor, but for a while there I worried he would be typecast for playing "the hot gay guy," since it only seemed like he was cast as the gay love interest (which caused him to develop quite the gay following).
Among his resume credits, he played Will's cutie cop dude on "Will & Grace":
And the closeted dancer in Shall We Dance:
But it looks like Cannavale may be typecast for another type of character now: scary Italian gangster.

oh! i love boardwalk empire (even though the opening credits are) A) the longest in history and B) is totally inappropriate for the time period/just a bad song in general.
what do you think?

That's interesting that you say that! My friend likes the song, but I agree with you---the credits are too long and kinda weird. They aren't like Game of Thrones---which are way long but appropriate.
