If you've seen the movie trailer for Bad Teacher, you may have asked yourself, "What's that song [toward the end of the preview]?" And if you're a TV junkie like me and watched a bunch of the fall TV promos two weeks ago, you probably noticed the song turn up again in NBC's "The Playboy Club" promo?
What is THAT song? It's the 2008 remake of the 1967 song "Beggin'" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, remixed and redone by Madcon, a Norwegian band.
HBO was actually the first to utilize the song, in their 2009 summer programming preview.
As a fan of the Four Seasons (my favorite is spring!---just kidding), I knew I recognized the "Beggin'" hook from the original.
Madcon's version is a really good cover, maintaining the soulful vibe of the original but with modern (rap) flair. It's fitting for "The Playboy Club," a '60s song remixed for contemporary times. It's also kinda perfect for Bad Teacher, a would-be same-old-song story of a teacher who needs to reach her students---but with the modern twist---in order to win a bonus and get breast implants.
